What is the Root Cause of Today’s Gender Identity Crisis?

Because I was a teenager in the 1960’s, I didn’t pay much attention to the “pop music” being played in the 1970’s and beyond. But I do remember a song by a band called Supertramp entitled: “The Logical Song.” Written by keyboardist, Roger Hodgson, it was a top ten hit in 1979. Besides having a good melody, what I remember most is: As the song reached a crescendo, vocalist Roger Hodgson sang out the woeful cry of a confused teenager trying to understand his own identity: “PLEASE TELL ME WHO I AM?” At the time, I was fairly young in the faith as a Christian, so I mostly dismissed this cry as foolishness. I was wrong, it was not foolishness at all, the song revealed a culture being “untethered” from its Christian and Moral Values. Now, 44 years later, that soul-felt cry to know one’s identity has become an epidemic within our Western societies. Young people from grade school all the way through adolescence struggle, just to have some basic understanding of their own existence. Things that humankind took for granted for thousands of years are now called into question. At the top of the list is a person’s Gender. What was once considered a rare psychological disorder has exploded into a culture destroying phenomenon. If that’s not bad enough, there’s more bad news: None of this is happening by accident. And it will get much worse before it gets better.
For those who have read my Blogs before, you should know that when I observe anything dysfunctional, I always ask the next question, “Why?” While many other people with conservative family values may diagnose the Gender Identity Crisis by looking at the Failure of Education, Social Engineering or the Destabilizing Influence of Marxist perspectives that permeate every part of Western Culture, I want to look to the real source: “The Fall of Mankind by our first parents, Adam and Eve.” Without naming Adam or Eve, here’s how Paul describes their rebellion and its Consequences:
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.” (Romans 1:18-28).
Recently, I watched: “What Is A Woman?” a video produced by conservative journalist, Matt Walsh. As part of the Daily Wire,” the video has attracted over 171 Million views. I was able to see it free on the first weekend of June, 2023. Let me fully attest, it is worth watching. While I’m not going to comment much on the documentary, I do want to identify the origin of the recent Trans-Gender Epidemic that is assaulting Western Societies. I’m totally convinced that mankind’s problems stem from the diagnosis the Apostle Paul gives to the Church in Rome above. While alluding to the Fall of Adam and Eve, Paul explains that as a result of our first parents’ sin, things went from bad to worse for humankind: “For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. Therefore, God gave them over “ . . . TO SPIRITUAL DYSPHORIA (Romans 1:21-24). While many think Gender Dysphoria is caused by society’s ills, the Bible teaches that futile thinking from depraved minds has caused Spiritual Dysphoria. And that is the root of Gender Identity Crisis.
Modern men and women, especially in Western societies, believe that most if not all of our problems are the result of a lack of Education or the need for a Government program. Nothing could be further from the truth. Education, or a desire to have more knowledge was the first sin that Eve committed in the Garden. Wanting to be wise, to eat (learn?) from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, was at the heart of Adam and Eve’s disobedience. As a result of their desiring to have more understanding than God had given them, they plunged all of mankind into sin and misery. And if there is one thing Scripture is clear on, it’s that “man by searching (learning) can’t find God” (Job 11:7). And to prove the point, Education has provided a laundry list of false answers, as men through all recorded history tried and failed to find God or answer Roger Hodgson’s question: “Please tell me who I am?”
Complicating the diagnosis and treatment ever further, “guilt over sin and alienation from God” has prompted many men to invent false answers to our real problem: “We Lack A Spiritual Identity.” To the Academics who seek to exert their own control and influence, the answer will always be “We are a people in need of learning, so the cure will ultimately be found in man’s accumulated learning and knowledge.” To the Psychiatrist or Psychologist, we are an “Advanced species with highly evolved thinking and emotions, still feeling cold, lustful, hungry and alienated (since birth), with a host of maladies too many to describe.” To the addict (sex, drugs, alcohol, money, power, video games), the answer is, “We are a blob of cells and proteins with appetites that need to be satiated, daily.” And to Religious men and women, we are guilt-ridden with a need to “placate the deity for our bad behavior with some form of sacrifice.” This even includes those satanists who have now “become mainstream.” Roger’s question and the false answers provided, are intoxicatingly attractive to the very young, who in the absence of Christian morals and culture, find themselves increasingly alienated from life. They genuinely don’t know who they are, partly because their parents, religious leaders, teachers and schools haven’t told them.
Into this void other foolish men and women have stepped, burdened with their own sins, seeking to provide one more “false answer” to the unsuspecting public. Matt Walsh’s video, “What Is A Woman?” rightly identified Alfred Kinsey and John Money (pictured above), two perverted liars, who in order to provide cover for their own perversion and twisted science, did exactly what Paul describes in Roman’s chapter 1, verses 18 -29:
“In their “darkened minds, they exchanged what may be known about God’s eternal power and godhead for myths about biological evolution from beasts and crawling creatures, exchanged the truth of God for a lie . . . . So, God gave them over to: dishonorable passions, women exchanging natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men” (Romans 1:18-28).
While “so-called science and academia” credit Kinsey and Money with discovering the twisted, “anti-scientific” disorder of transgenderism, let me state categorically, that these men were not real scientists (unless you think Joseph Mengele was a scientist). But their discredited and skewed research still had a serious impact by untethering our post-Christian culture from Truth, that is Reality. Young people are no longer taught that they are made in the “image and likeness of God.” Rather, using “evolutionary myths,” they are taught that they are just blobs of protoplasm, floating like pond scum in some primordial soup. And without any explanation, into this soup some chemical charge or lightning bolt, or something we can’t see or demonstrate – sparked life! No wonder there are many youths struggling with an Identity Crisis in the current generation. These lies are in complete contradiction to the “God in whom alone there is life” (John 1:4), who gives life to all His creation. And now, after several generations of untethering, naïve men and women taken captive by this empty philosophy, can’t answer the basic question: Please Tell Me Who I Am? So they search for meaning and purpose, most of them finding both in the destructive falsehood of Transgenderism.
As we’ve learned, by severing our vertical relationship with God in the Garden, our first parents twisted and skewed all our other relationships horizontally with other men and women. Make no mistake, the two are completely linked, Paul, the inspired writer to the Church in Rome, tells us so. The Biblical diagnosis for our debased and darkened minds is “Spiritual Dysphoria.” All of history teaches us that this condition has led to every imaginable perversion in our relations with others. And Paul doesn’t limit his condemnation to “homosexual activity,” he elsewhere condemns adultery and fornication even among heterosexuals as sin (I Corinthians 6:12-20).
The good news of the Gospel is: “God, has appeared in the flesh to manifest Himself to men and women, and to give life and knowledge of the Glory of God in the face of Christ Jesus our Lord” (2 Corinthians 4:6). This knowledge of God alone gives men and women a “Christ-Identity” that comforts and directs our worship and purpose for living. No longer tossed to-and-fro by the winds of false doctrines or philosophies, we can know that as Believers, our True Identity is in Christ. So, let me end with the cure for Spiritual Dysphoria, given by the Apostle Paul to the Church in Colossae 2,000 years ago:
“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desiresand greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator” (Colossians 3:1-10).
